El Solitario MC » Baula
‘Baula’, based on a 1969 BMW R75/5 is one of those rare customs that deviates from the norm, forging a path where none existed before. While builders fine-tune existing trends and clichés, David Borras and the team at El Solitario MC shocked and awed the crowds with this stunning creation at the recent Wheels & Waves show in Biarritz, France. A six-month effort by the Spanish builder, the bike was born out of ideas inspired by the 1939 TT-winning BMW Rennsport and the art deco Henderson.
The motor and suspension are completely rebuilt, while the restored frame is now nickel-plated. The fishtail pipes come from a Velocette Thruxton, with the massive Hoske long-range tank dominating the looks. The guys also threw in a Silent Hektik coil, an electronic ignition system, lightweight AntiGravity lithium battery and Motogadget instruments while at it.
The handcrafted metalwork comprises a new fairing – molded around twin Bates headlights – that sports a pair of brown Lexan polycarbonate resin windows. At the rear, you have custom-made racks to house the vintage Buco Panniers. The handmade bars are set off with leather grips and matched to Royal Enfield levers. Finally, ‘Baula’ – which incidentally is the Spanish word for a leatherback turtle – now rolls on Excel Takasago 18” aluminium alloy rims.
