MotoDiscovery » Turkey Fantasy Tour
Covering over 3050 kilometres in 13 days, the Turkey Fantasy Tour is one that is intensely flavored with biblical history and ancient archeology. Few destinations in the MotoDiscovery lineup resonate with so much romance, culture, history, fun riding and exotica. From the moment you arrive to the magical old city of Istanbul, guarding the entrance to the Bosphorus that flows to the Black Sea where Europe meets Asia, you know you are someplace special.
This tour will begin with a ride to the World War I battlefield of Gallipoli, so much a part of New Zealand and Australia military history. Crossing the Dardanelles, you go way back with a visit to the sight of Troy and then to the city of Ephesus near the Aegean Sea that dates back to over 500 years BC. Bodrum is a lively town on the sea with an impressive 15th century crusaders castle with electric nightlife. Continuing to ride along the Aegean coast, the route moves inland to Konya, most noted for the monument and tomb of the great Sufi spiritual leader Rumi. Konya is a pilgrimage sight for those who follow the peaceful philosophy of this Persian poet, mystic and theologian from the 13th century.
A highlight of this journey is a two night stay in Cappadocia, the arid sprawl of soft volcanic stone pinnacles with carved habitats, including your hotel. You will want to take advantage of a breathtaking hot air balloon ride here as well as dig deep into the history of the region, especially the underground city of Derinkuyu that could inhabit as many as 25,000 people. The story of these subterranean dwellings is as fascinating as the construction itself.
MotoDiscovery will arrange a stay in an ancient walled caravansary, a fortress like structure often found along the Royal and Silk Roads. Once caravans of camels brought goods from the far east entering through protected portals. Our motorcycles pass through those gates today, stirring thoughts of what it was like during those centuries past. The journey ends back in Istanbul for a final night.
The two available tour dates are from June 15-27 and September 18-30, 2014. Prices from USD 7000, which includes a BMW F 700 GS rental. Check out MotoDiscovery for the complete itinerary, what’s included and FAQ.
