1972 Kawasaki H2 750 Mach IV
Just came across this sweet 1972 Kawasaki H2 750 Mach IV on Proper Bikes.
A standard factory-produced H2 was able to travel a quarter mile from a standing start in 12 seconds flat – faster acceleration than anything else available a the time. More than any other model, it created Kawasaki’s reputation for building “scarily fast, good-looking, no holds barred motorcycles”.
The engine development during this period was somewhat ahead of frame development and the imbalance resulted in ‘lively’ motorcycles that provided a unique and exciting riding experience. In addition to the high power output, the triple cylinder engine also developed a surprisingly high amount of torque. This has further established the H2 as one of the ultimate Japanese collectors motorcycles.
This very early H2 is almost entirely original and remains in standard condition. The odo shows just 3,943 and was imported to the UK in 2001 with 3,310 miles. The paintwork on the frame and panels remains original, and although some inevitable signs of age are evident, the finish is still smart and presentable. All other parts appear original with some plated finishes refreshed. The seat has been expertly recovered and the original wheel rims and hubs have been carefully rebuilt to a very high standard with new spokes.
The engine compressions are even and high and it runs very sweetly and pulls very hard. Specification remains standard and the chain oiler, air box and rubber induction snorkel etc. are all present and correct. The rubber air box manifold appears to be original, for example, but is still sound, supple and has plenty of life left. This further supports the belief that the very low mileage is original. The engine number is just five digits different to the frame, indicating it is an early example. Priced at GBP 12,950, check it out here.
