Otto Lamp by Urban Light Factory
The Otto Lamp by Urban Light Factory is one of the forefathers of the modern headlight, crafted by a little German company that specialises in rescuing vintage car and motorcycle parts and turning them into elegant desk and floor lamps. The company is owned and run by Ulf, a Berliner who restores vintage German motorcycles when he isn’t busy crafting these awesome lamps.
The inspiration for Otto arose from the first motorbike his grandfather used to ride in the Twenties, a Belgian-made FN. As they were delivered without any sort of lighting, he made one himself using a Bosch unit. The wonderful patina of the Bosch logo-etched glass diffuser is accentuated with a wooden tripod, bakelite switch, and a braided, black textile cable.
You get the lamp wrapped in a linen cloth and wood shavings in Urban Light Factory’s hand-crafted wooden box with a history sheet telling you what vehicle the lamp started life on, associated light nameplate and an accessory pocket with tool.
