Walt Siegl builds some wickedly cool Ducatis, we know that for sure. But what many of you might not know is about Tannermatic, a Massachusetts-based company that has been crafting numerous composite parts for Siegl’s gorgeous custom motorcycles. Matt Tanner has over 17 years’ worth of experience in the boatbuilding industry, combined with a lifetime passion for the arts, motorcycle racing and surfing. And recently, he took a break from his usual crafting and repairing activities in motorsports, marine, surf and architectural applications; and decided to build his own custom bike.

This 750cc Ducati Monster was acquired from a friend, with the intention of running it as an endurance racer for a USCRA (United States Classic Racing Association) event in June 2014. After getting it over to his workshop in Hull, Matt got about to planning the project, getting in touch with friends in the bike building and fabrication scene to get them involved in the project.

And who better to kickstart the process than Walt Siegl himself! Matt got Siegl to build a custom frame to his own specification, while Eric of Clubhouse Motorsports helped in setting up the trellis frame to fit aftermarket wheels and suspension suited for track use. Ex BCM Racing owner and a co-worker on Walt Seigel’s projects, Bruce Meyers made sure that the engine was in good condition and even constructed a new wiring harness in order to eliminate unnecessary lighting circuits and electrical components.

Using the purpose-built frame as a template, Matt started crafting the custom bodywork, comprising the fuel tank, front fairing, tail section and bellypan, drawing from his skills in foam shaping before creating the final pieces in lightweight carbon-fibre. Setting off the build was custom intakes and a pair of Dellorto round slide carbs, supplied by Giannini Racing.
