Mack » DP Customs
While there are plenty of custom builders who craft cafe racer-ish Harley-Davidson Sportsters, Arizona-based DP Customs are amongst the few that stand out. Brothers Jarrod and Justin Del Prado build fast and stylish Harleys for a reasonable layout, and their latest one, dubbed ‘Mack’, is no exception.
The 2000MY XL1200 benefits from Revolution Performance heads, cylinders and pistons, Screamin’ Eagle high lift cams; capacity is slightly bumped to 1250cc, with the cases now protected by a bright aluminium coating. The rear subframe, tail section and 2-into-1 exhaust system is hand-fabbed, as is the diamond-stitched Alcantara seat. Other goodies include a Dynatek single fire ignition and coil to boost the spark, 42mm Mikuni carb, lightweight Ballistic battery, one-off triple clamps, clip-ons and rear sets.
The Sportster’s front has been lowered, and complemented with Öhlins forks and shocks. The trail has been increased, along with a Scotts steering stabilizer to o improve stability. Drag racing specialist Trac Dynamics also crafted a lightweight aluminium swing arm made to the brothers’ specifications.
The newfound power is kept in check by lightweight carbon-fibre BST wheels, wrapped in Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa rubber, and Brembo brakes mated to an ISR master cylinder. Topping off DP Customs‘ newest build is a sharp blend of matte black and Porsche’s Voodoo Blue (as seen on the 918 Spyder).
