OORacing » Turbocharged Honda Monkey
This awesome bike took birth from a rather simple idea. You know, turbochargers are ‘the’ most common solution for extra speed these days, to the point where I can say to some random dude “Hey man, you think slow, maybe you should add a turbo!” or something like that. Even then, adding boost to a Honda Monkey seems like overkill, but that is exactly what UK-based OORacing did, thanks to their massive experience in turbocharging multi-cylinder engines.
‘Project Napier’ kicked off with a slightly modified chassis and hunting around for space to incorporate the oomph-inducing goodies. The side-mounted intercooler was relocated to the front due to the turbo not getting cooled fast enough, with the guys adding a needle control valve to control the oil feed into the turbo and a small electronic scavenger pump to remove oil from the turbo. Lots of data analysis, rolling road tests and fine-tuning later, OORacing’s Monkey finally came into its own, though the initial 15psi of boost was dialled down to 8 by means of an external adjustable wastegate. Tipping the scales at a paltry 75kg, the 25hp Monkey (OORacing figure they can extract close to 33hp) consistently hits speeds of close to 160km/h.
Other bits on the outside include Vincent-style handlebars, custom-made OORacing CNC front forks and a 200mm floating disc, custom CNC 10″ x 3.50″ wide wheels with Sava slick tyres, full exhaust system built by Steelheart Engineering and a handmade silencer based on OORacing Carbon TTR1 system.
