This project, dubbed ‘El Carmen’, was based on one of the most common motorcycles out there, the Triumph Bonneville. It’s a bike from 2005 and one of several custom Bonnies that have come out of Maria Riding Company. The goal with this one was very different from the usual projects; they wanted to see how it would be possible to go by using all the best equipment out there. It was, of course, a project ordered by a client.

The Portugal-based outfit started with a list of major goals – they wanted to make it more powerful, lighter, improved handling, better brakes, and the best suspension. And that’s exactly what they did. But it’s not as simple as sourcing the best bits and and fitting it. Case in point, it wasn’t easy to fit the front wheel on the Ohllins kit and Brembo brakes since the offset was completely wrong. Another issue was the battery box, which was meant to be out of sight completely; so the crew installed two small lithium batteries under the seat, along with integrating all the electrics there as well. The modified Bonneville also received a new carbon handlebar, brake and clutch levers from Brembo, front suspension, triple trees, front brake and disc, headlight, Rizoma oil cups, speedo, tank cover, lithium batteries, new air filter, transmission, tyres, back fender, seat, and Zard exhaust system. Massive.

Despite the final result, it’s still a Bonnie but with a with a more modern look. The tasteful mix of components has made this bike very unique, chic, and exclusive. Some of you might find it controversial, but remember that this is what the customer wanted. Definitely a very well equipped bike and one that performs better over the donor. For sure, it will not go unnoticed on the streets of Lisbon.
